Alan's Paul Shrimper. (featured on our 2005 DVD Model Sail)
This is a 30" model of a fishing boat that worked the River Humber through the late 19th. century and up to the1950's.It is a fibreglass hull that was taken from a polystyrene plug .It has a lead keel of about 7lb. bolted on to give the model enough stability. She has proved to be very attractive and sails beautifully.
This barge is 30" long and is based on a Humber sloop barge called the 'Amy Howson' .She has a fibreglass hull and uses a centre board keel to allow her to have a yacht like sailing performance. The keel is held in place by a pin which can be removed to allow the barge to be displayed as she originally was designed. My Thames Barge is based on "Lady Daphne" having been constructed on a Paul Stringer fibre glass hull. With a 14lbs detachable drop keel, this 50" barge (inc-bowsprit) is a sailer of character outweighing the need for speed, although it works well on the water come what weather.
